Success as GoCycle launch Cycle for Life event

A great day was had by all,  as a large number of cyclists took part in the inaugural Cycle for Life event at The Village Green Billington Park, on 15 June 2009.  The event was opened by the Mayor Cllr Karen Cursons and other councillors also attended and took to the track in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Five teams entered the event, with over 100 people participating throughout the day in the 6 hour long relay.  Along with many others arriving to have their bikes checked by GoCycle's Dr Bike and also take part in races and obstacle courses to test out cycling skills including Northshore tryouts.

Allison Jeavons, GoCycle's Schools Officer said "Children really engaged in all the activities on offer, they had particular fun with the limbo bar and were able to improve their cycle skills in an off road environment with their families there to support them".

Community Police Officers were on hand to security mark bikes and offer advice on how to keep your bike!  Various local businesses also attended offering such things as recycled bicycles and cycle storage options.

GoCycle will also be present at the Carnival and Canal Festival to provide Bike Checks and information on cycling and cycle training – why not come along by bike and join in the fun! (Additional cycle parking will be provided).
