BIKE WEEK SPECIAL EDITION


This is a special edition to ensure that you are all aware of the various activities that will be taking place during Bike Week in and around Leighton-Linslade.

You will see the GoCycle Instructor team out and about running Bikeability courses for local Middle Schools too, during this week, as well as the rest of the year. You can have Cycle Training too – see below.

Bike Week 2009 (13th – 21st June 2009)

Bike Week is the UK's largest mass participation cycling event and provides an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun, not to mention an alternative form of transport.  This year, Bike Week 2009 is encouraging everyone to 'get more out of life'- by getting on your bikes, exploring your local community and finding out just how convenient cycling is for all those short trips we make each day.

Here are some of the events that will be on offer by GoCycle during Bike Week 2009:

13th June (Saturday)    Partnering Ride with Cycle Aylesbury
Join us as we celebrate the launch of Bike Week 2009 with a partnering ride with Cycle Aylesbury.   We will meet at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre at 11.00 am and take a leisurely bike ride along the canal towpath to Marsworth, stopping at Bluebells Cafe for lunch (or bring a picnic if you prefer) where we will meet up with the Cycle Aylesbury Crew.  You can then choose to make your own way back or join us at around 2.00 pm for the return journey along the canal towpath and back to Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre.

13th June (Saturday)    Dr Bike – St Barnabas Village Fete, Linslade
GoCycle will be in attendance providing information and advice, along with our very own Dr Bike, who will be offering free bike checks throughout the duration of the Fete, so why not cycle down and leave the car at home!

15th June (Monday)    Bikers Breakfast – Leighton Buzzard Railway Station
All Cyclists that commute by bike to Leighton Buzzard Railway Station will be offered a free Bikers Breakfast from 6.00 am – 8.30 am in the morning,  this event is being organised to say a big thank you to Leighton Buzzard station’s bike commuters!

16th June (Tuesday)    Evening Family bike ride
Join us for a family bike ride around Leighton-Linslade.  Meeting at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm and we will show you a local cycle route, and give you an opportunity to meet other families cycling in Leighton-Linslade.  An ideal opportunity for all the family to come along and have a fun, free evening out.

17th June – 23rd June (Wednesday for 1 week) Display in Leighton Buzzard Library
Why not visit the Library during Bike Week and find out more about the history of cycling!

17th June (Wednesday)            Picnic in the Park, Parsons Close
The Pre-school Learning Alliance annual ‘Picnic in the Park’ , is a community event that attracts many hundreds of pre-school children and their families and carers, so why not come and join in the fun and arrive by bike and get a free bike check and tips and advice on how to get the complete beginner cycling!

17th & 18th June (Weds & Thurs)               Dr Bike – Grovebury Road Industrial Estate
Dr Bike will be on hand ouside the Learning Warehouse to provide free bike checks, advice and information on cycling.

20th June (Saturday)         Cycle for Life – Sponsored Bike ride, all abilities welcome to join in!
We are holding a sponsored relay bike ride on a quarter of a mile circuit, off-road. Each participating team will need a mascot that they must move continually around the track for 6 hours. We are recruiting 10 teams of up 20 people per team; register your interest by contacting GoCycle@LeightonLinslade. FREE Bike Loans – Don’t forget, if you haven’t got a bike and would like to borrow a refurbished one from our stock, to use for regular journeys in and around Leighton-Linslade area, contact us now to borrow one for FREE.


Cycle Training is for Everyone - Also, you can contact us now to sign up for our Cycle training courses – evenings and weekend slots available for adults as well as holiday courses for Children – all ages, all levels of experience and confidence.
