Events and activities for you:
1. Summer Holiday Activities
Complete beginners and off-road control skills – we have a few places left on these courses, for 4 – 9 year olds, on Monday mornings in August (not 31st August, Bank Holiday Monday). Each session costs £5 per trainee.
Please ring to check which dates and times are available, before sending in a booking form, consent form and cheques made payable to “Central Bedfordshire Council”. Courses take place at Southcott School, Linslade.
Off Road Sports Cycling Skills - There is still an opportunity to book onto, GoCycle’s FREE Go-Ride cycle skills course for 9 – 16 year olds. This course takes place from 10.00 – 12.00 noon Monday 17th to Thursday 20th August and will include four sessions of off-road skills. This course will take place at Gilbert Inglefield Middle School.
Bikeability level 2 Road-riding skills – we have a few places left on this course for 9 – 16 year olds, on Friday 21st August, from 9.30 to 4pm. Bring your own lunch and drinks. Cost is £15 for the whole day. The course starts and finishes at Gilbert Inglefield Middle School.

Tues 4th and Thurs 6th August 2009
Each day – 11 am to 4.30pm – The programme will include On-Road cycle training to Level 3 (advanced level) plus a bike ride and bike maintenance basic training all with Accredited Bikeability Cycle Instructors. Meet at Vandyke Youth Centre. Bring your own packed lunch and drinks.
2 Cycle Training for Adults
Don’t get left behind, GoCycle offer Adult Cycle training for all ages, all experience levels welcome. Complete Beginners, on-road confidence building and advanced level training is available daytimes, evenings and weekends to suit you. 2 hour sessions cost £15 per person.
One of our Adult cycle trainees had training last Saturday morning and look at the effect it has had already, only a few days later:
“The training was brilliant and helped me a lot - thanks very much. On Sunday I went out on my first bike ride, I did a tour round Leighton, some off-road, some on-road. Did 14 miles - it was great.”

3 Bike Maintenance Courses
GoCycle offer Bike Maintenance Courses, if you or your family would like to get involved in learning how to keep your bike on the road – why not take advantage and book onto one of our courses, suitable for all ages and experience levels. 4 Wheelie Wednesday – 12th August 2009
Our next Wheelie Wednesday will take place on Wednesday 12th August – 12.30 – 1.30 pm - Meet at the Market Cross Leighton Buzzard. (To have your bike checked before the ride, please arrive 15 mins early).
5 Cycle Sundays
There will be 2 rides taking place on Sunday 2 August 2009 take your pick - shorter ride to meet at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre at 10.00 am and take a leisurely ride along the canal towpath to Bluebells Café, enjoy a coffee and cake before returning back to the Leisure Centre (maximum 5 hours including lunch break)
or you can choose to go further …..
Departing Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre car park at 9.30 am heading off along the towpath and then on towards Soulbury, Hollingdon, Mursley, picking up route 54 to Winslow, stopping for Coffee at Jenny Wren's in Winslow then on to East Claydon, Botolph Claydon, Quainton, Pitchcott/Oving, Whitchurch to Cublington. Breaking for lunch at The Unicorn, then returning to Leighton Buzzard.

7 Cycle Instructors needed for GoCycle Leighton-Linslade
This job involves training people of all ages - from 4 years old to 94 years old in the skills of controlling their bike and riding on the road.

Linda Rowlands [linda_rowlands@yahoo.com] refurbishes and services bikes to keep them on the road and out of landfill. Mainly mountain bikes but also get the occasional road bike. They go for between £35 and £55 depending on spec and condition.
We'd be very happy to hear from anyone who wants a refurbished and serviced bike. We are equally happy to take on unwanted bikes, even if only to be stripped for spares. We can pick up unwanted bikes if they are reasonably local LB, MK, Aylesbury areas.

10 “CentiPedal” 100 mile Bike ride Sunday 6th September 2009

10TH Living History Day at Leighton Buzzard Town Centre. Come and visit GoCycle to get your bike check over ready for those winter months.

12 News and Events from other places:
Sustrans - Coast & Castles Challenge sponsored ride is a 176 mile route which leaves Gateshead on Friday 25th September and arrives in Edinburgh on Sunday 27th September.
It promises to be a very special event with various en route highlights
Prices start from £120, which includes two nights camping accommodation (optional extra for hotel & chalet accommodation available at extra cost), Luggage transfer during the ride, Support team & vehicles, Sustrans Coasts & Castles South map and daily route maps, Water, Energy drinks, 2 x breakfast, 3 x lunch, 2 x evening meal, Special edition t-shirt, Sustrans water bottle and a guided tour of Alnwick Castle.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £300 each, and can take part individually or in a team.
