This month's Update focuses on joining up to our GoCycle Challenge – we are running many events and activities that can facilitate you getting onto your bike, logging your miles with the GoCycle Challenge and winning super prizes, such as cinema tickets, and a brand new bike!    Take a look below to see what is on offer and pedal away into 2011.

    GoCycle Challenge 
    The GoCycle Challenge is free.  Register to take part NOW at www.gocyclechallenge.org.  For more information email sam.ryan@ctc.org.uk or ring/write to GoCycle at the White House, Hockliffe Street, LB LU7 1HD, 01525 635111 for a hardcopy registration form
    Need a Bike? 
    You can buy or borrow some wheels at the Cycle Hut at Station Approach, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 2LY - the building opposite the station entrance.   There is parking for 3 cars and 60 bikes and it is well served  by buses including the 27, 36A, 69, 70, 73 & D1 with the 150 stop nearby.
    Second Hand Bike Sale  at the Cycle Hut on Friday 28th Jan, 4 – 8pm
•    Refurbished bikes are available from a number of local organisations who reclaim bikes that would otherwise go to landfill. Their contact details are: linda_rowlands@yahoo.com  07802 435750, or markjeavons@msn.com 07710525329, or cjwilkinson38@gmail.com 01525 221053 (evenings only).   Many of these bikes are available to view at the Cycle Hut – open Monday to Fridays every week, from 6-9am and 4 – 8pm.
•    There is a sale of good quality refurbished bikes  on the last Friday of every month at the Cycle Hut.  Why not come down,  try out some bikes and perhaps take one away? Dates  are 28th January, 25th February, 25th March, 2011, 4 – 8pm.
    GoCycle Loan Bike Scheme
If you are a regular rail commuter and not quite sure what sort of bike is best for you then use GoCycle 's loan bike scheme. At the Cycle Hut we have a range of bikes for people to try out on loan including electric assisted bikes, folding bikes, shoppers, hybrids, mountain bikes and more.  The loan period is one month and free although some bikes require a £50 returnable deposit. Bikes come with lights and a lock.
    Service your own Bike - Bike Maintenance Courses
There are a variety of courses to suit your experience and interest - Introductory Bike Maintenance Course, Intermediate Bike Maintenance Course, Coached Bike Service – service your own bike under supervision in your own back yard.     Make a Date to Go for a Ride – join in with a Regular Ride:
•    Wheelie Wednesday  local rides – 45 minutes on the 2nd Wednesday of each month – next dates: 9th Feb, 9th March, 12.30pm at the Market Cross, LB High Street
•    Le Tour de Buzzard – Road riders – every Sunday morning 9.30am, Mentmore Road Recreation Ground
•    All the Gears but No Ideas – beginners/slower Road Riders 9.30am, Mentmore Road, Recreation Ground
•    Regular Riders a leisurely ride – every Sunday afternoon from 1.45pm, Church Square, Town Centre
•    Lumen Loonies – every Thursday evening from 7.30pm, Church Square, Town Centre
•    Family Rides – once per month from 11am - 1st Sunday of the month, Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, next dates: 5th Feb, 5th March.
•    Tuesday  Ladies – once per week, 10am, incl a coffee stop – contact GoCycle.

Bring your bike along to one of our FREE Dr Bike checks - GoCycle Tuesdays run until the end of March 2011, from 8am to 4pm each week.

Mountain Bike Skills Training at the Cycle Hut 21st, 23rd, 24th Feb,
The Cycle Hut, Station Approach, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 2LY (bike, bus and train easy access). Building on the success of the Christmas Holiday sessions these courses will be guaranteed to be dry as they utilise the warehouse space available and the Shoretrax portable mountain bike trail inside the Cycle Hut in Leighton Buzzard directly opposite Leighton Buzzard Station. 10am.to 3pm.

Oak Bank CCC Mountain Bike Ride at Ashridge, 5th Feb
On Sunday 5th February Oak Bank CCC are holding a mountain bike ride at Ashridge for children over 9. Approximately two hours riding, some cycling experience required. Bikes may be available for loan please state when booking your place. Cost £3.00 for further information contact. Club at Oak Bank running as normal.
