3.    “CentiPedal” 100 mile Bike Ride - Sunday 6th September 2009

We now have an agreed route and a rush of people willing to take up the challenge of cycling up to 100 miles in one day!  The ride will use Sustrans National Cycle Routes 6 and 51, plus some quiet roads.  It circles Leighton Buzzard, offering riders the option of diverting off home at selected points.  Everyone who completes 20 miles will get a bronze medal, silver for 50 miles and gold for the full 100!

You can register with me alvina.farrow@leightonlinslade-tc.gov.uk in advance or on the day from 6 am onwards. The official start time will be 7am (when I’m off and running) and a latest start time of 8am (for the speed merchants – please wave as you pass!).

We are looking for people who would like to be part of our support crew and in particular someone equipped and willing to provide mobile assistance to riders, including roadside repairs and recovery.  If you are interested please email me - alvina.farrow@leightonlinslade-tc.gov.uk.

4.  Are you a keen and frequent cyclist?  Would you like to take part in a pioneering ‘Human Power’ experiment for BBC1?

Dragonfly TV is looking for fit cyclists over 16yrs to take part in a novel experiment which attempts to convert human pedal power into electricity.  The event will be filmed for an exciting new science documentary to be broadcast on BBC1 this autumn.

The experiment will take place on the 5th and 6th of September, 2009 in Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire.

Those involved will be asked to pedal in short bursts at a range of speeds to try and produce enough electricity to power a number of common household appliances.

If you’re interested and would like to find out more, please call Emma Hughes on 0207 033 3198 or email her at pedalpower@dragonfly.tv.  You will be asked to complete a simple medical questionnaire to confirm your fitness to participate.
