Cycle Friendly Employers
Cycling offers real benefits to employers, such as freeing up valuable staff car parking space for other uses, creating a healthier and more alert workforce, helping staff get to work more reliably, as well as helping the general business climate by reducing congestion and pollution in the locality.
Large numbers of people already cycle to work. In doing so, they do their employer, the local community and even the global environment a huge favour. They deserve to be looked after! Many more people would willingly cycle to work, if better conditions and support were provided at the workplace.
A cycle friendly employer will provide good quality, covered cycle parking, ideally with some spare capacity to accommodate new cyclists. Cycle parking needs to be situated prominently, where there is plenty of passive surveillance or CCTV and lighting.
There are other schemes that you can sign up to at little or no cost, which allows your employees to buy new bikes and accessories for their daily journey to work at a huge discount, through a tax efficient Cycle to Work scheme.
If you are an employer and would like some advice on how to become more cycling friendly, please contact Pauline Roby – Project Officer, GoCycle by email: Pauline.roby@leightonlinslade-tc.gov.uk or telephone 01525 635112.
Pauline would also like to hear from you if you work in Leighton Linslade and would like:
- loan of a bike to try cycling to work
- help in putting the case for cycle parking
- information on cycle routes or cycle training
- help to promote cycling in your workplace
