Bikeability Cycle Training for Schools

Central Bedfordshire Council are changing the way in which they arrange Bikeability cycle training courses at schools. The new model is outlined in the guidance accessible on CBC's website http://www.learning.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/index.cfm?s=1&m=5&p=47,index  and enables schools to arrange their own Bikeability cycle training with any of the Bikeability Providers listed on  http://www.dft.gov.uk/bikeability/.

In order to do this you will need to contact your School Sports Partnership Development Manager who will confirm with you the levels of funding they have available for Bikeability courses at your school.

The new guidance, as well as outlining the new models for arranging and funding cycle training,,  provides you with some practical tips for booking Bikeability courses with cycle training organisations.

The new Bikeability guidance pack includes:
•       What is Bikeability?
•       Structure of Bikeability Cycle Training in Central Bedfordshire
•       Flowcharts
•       School Sport Partnership Funded Courses
•       Central Bedfordshire Council Funded Courses
•       Practical Tips for Organising Bikeability Courses
•       Funding claim forms
•       Letters for Parents
•       School Cycling Policy – Example
•       School Cycling Parking Permit

Within the guidance an example of a School Cycling Policy has been provided which is strongly recommended.

This guide will be a useful tool for arranging cycle training for your pupils and will help you to encourage more students to travel to school by bicycle.
NB. When using the 'Bikeability Near You' search tool on the  http://www.dft.gov.uk/bikeability/ website, ONLY use the 'Local Authorities' search as this is the search which will produce a list of accredited providers. A good tip is also to search in Local Authority areas adjacent to your area (e.g. Chiltern SSP - search Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Milton Keynes)
